The Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) at the Global Institute of Engineering and Technology (GIET) plays a pivotal role in nurturing entrepreneurial mindsets and empowering students to become innovative leaders and successful business owners. The cell is dedicated to creating an ecosystem where students can transform their entrepreneurial ideas into viable ventures, with the support of mentorship, training, and resources.
Nurturing a collaborative ecosystem, the EDC at GIET aims to empower future leaders who will drive innovation and contribute to the growth of the national and global economy
The primary aim of the EDC is to cultivate an entrepreneurial culture within the campus. It encourages students to think beyond conventional career paths and to explore entrepreneurship as a viable and rewarding career option. Through various awareness programs, guest lectures, and networking events, students are exposed to the exciting world of startups and innovation.
The cell works closely with successful entrepreneurs, industry experts, and seasoned mentors who guide students through every stage of the entrepreneurial journey. From refining business ideas to market research, financial planning, and pitching to investors, the EDC ensures that students receive the guidance necessary to succeed in their ventures.
The EDC offers support for startups by providing the infrastructure and resources required to develop and grow businesses. This includes access to startup incubators, office spaces, and technical resources. Students who wish to transform their ideas into startups are given the platform to incubate their projects and test their ideas in a safe and supportive environment.
The EDC regularly organizes skill-building workshops and training sessions aimed at equipping students with the technical and soft skills needed for entrepreneurship. Topics covered in these workshops include business modeling, digital marketing, leadership skills, funding strategies, patenting and IP protection, pitching to investors, and more.
A major strength of the EDC is its ability to connect students with a wide network of entrepreneurs, investors, and industry professionals. By organizing networking events, startup expos, and entrepreneurship summits, the EDC helps students connect with key stakeholders in the business ecosystem. These connections can lead to valuable collaborations, partnerships, and funding opportunities.
The EDC actively connects student startups with potential investors and venture capitalists. Through pitch events and startup competitions, students get the opportunity to showcase their business ideas and secure seed funding. The cell also provides information about various government schemes, grants, and financial programs available for budding entrepreneurs.
In addition to supporting traditional business ventures, the EDC at GIET also encourages students to develop socially responsible businesses. The cell promotes the concept of social entrepreneurship, where students are encouraged to create solutions that have a positive impact on society while still being economically viable.
The EDC helps student ventures move from the ideation phase to the market phase. Through structured mentoring, access to industry networks, and guidance on scaling up their businesses, the cell assists in turning nascent startups into sustainable businesses. This includes support in refining business models, product-market fit, and strategy for growth.
Fostering an environment where creativity, risk-taking, and business acumen thrive, and where students are encouraged to explore their full potential as entrepreneurs.
Entrepreneurship Awareness Camps (EAC): These camps aim to raise awareness about entrepreneurship and encourage students to think about launching their own businesses.
Start-up Week: An annual event that brings together students, entrepreneurs, investors, and industry experts to exchange ideas, pitch business concepts, and engage in discussions about the startup ecosystem.
Business Plan Competitions: The EDC regularly organizes competitions where students submit their business plans and pitch their startup ideas to a panel of judges. Winning teams often receive mentorship and seed funding to help launch their ventures.
Guest Lectures and Webinars: Industry leaders, successful entrepreneurs, and investors are invited to share their insights and experiences, offering students a chance to learn from their real-world successes and challenges.
The EDC at GIET has played a significant role in shaping the entrepreneurial landscape at the institute. Over the years, many students have turned their ideas into thriving businesses with the support of the cell. Some notable startups that have emerged from GIET’s EDC include ventures in areas like renewable energy, healthcare technology, e-commerce, and agri-tech.
The Entrepreneurship Development Cell has also contributed to increasing the entrepreneurial spirit on campus, with a growing number of students pursuing business ventures rather than traditional jobs after graduation. Through its continuous efforts, the cell is creating a generation of students who are not just job seekers but job creators.
